Cypriot Civil Society Mapping and Capacity Building Project

The NGO Support Centre in collaboration with the Management Centre of the Mediterranean, implemented a 22 month capacity building project (2013-2016).

The Cypriot Civil Society Mapping and Capacity Building Project sought to improve the capacities of Cypriot Civil Society Organisations, as part of NGO Support Centre’s continued efforts for an empowered civil society. The project implemented a mapping exercise that examined the capacities of 80 Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot NGOs and identified key areas in need of improvement. Subsequently, a series of  five capacity building workshops were be designed and delivered to NGOs. Near the end of the project’s cycle, and in line with the efforts to change the legal framework for NGOs in Cyprus, a Code of Ethics for NGOs was prepared with the direct input of various NGOs, through a series of island-wide consultation with the aim to create a more transparent and accountable third sector.

The Cypriot Civil Society Mapping and Capacity Building Project benefited from a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants and the Republic of Cyprus.
