NGO Code of Ethics and Practices
This document has been produced through a series of consultations with representatives from various NGOs, as part of the ‘Cypriot Civil Society Mapping and Capacity Building Project’. It constitutes eight clauses that represent the core values and work of NGOs in Cyprus.
This document examines the current framework of good governance practices and challenges of NGOs in Cyprus and addresses the need for the development of an NGO Code of Ethics and Practices. It also looks at existing examples of Codes of Ethics/Conduct that have been developed by organizations in Cyprus and abroad.
The NGO Support Centre through the ‘Cypriot Civil Society Mapping and Capacity Building Project’ has drafted an NGO Code of Ethics and Practices. The document has been prepared with the active input of around 100 representatives from NGOs through an island-wide and online series of consultations. During the consultations, NGO representatives were asked to identify the values and principles the consider the most important in their work. As a result an NGO Code of Ethics and Practices was prepared that includes eight core values that represent the work of NGOs in Cyprus. The Code is accompanied by a background document that highlights the current framework of good governance practices and challenges of the third sector in Cyprus.
The NGO Code of Ethics and Practices and the Background Document are available here.
