Finalisation of Cypriot Civil Society Mapping & Capacity Building Project

Finalisation of Cypriot Civil Society Mapping & Capacity Building Project

The NGO Support Centre has completed its project ‘Cypriot Civil Society Mapping and Capacity Building Project’. The project was implemented in collaboration with the Management Centre of the Mediterranean and with the financial support of the EEA Grants and the Republic of Cyprus.

The project sought to improve the capacities of Cypriot Civil Society Organisations through a capacity assessment research through which it identified their strengths and weaknesses and formulated a series of actions to address them. Through the assessment, 80 representatives of CSOs were interviewed about their work, actions and possible difficulties they face. Based on the results of the capacity assessment a series of 5 training seminars took place to more than 100 participants from various CSOs

The interest from CSOs for participation in the capacity assessment research and the training seminars highlighted the need for continuous support on structural and organisational matters so that CSOs can overcome their financial difficulties and continue providing for their beneficiaries and Cypriot society as a whole.

Additionally, through the project, a Code of Ethics was developed with the direct contribution of CSOs. The Code was based on the feedback and results of a series of open consultations in various cities and online that identified the common values and principles of CSOs in Cyprus.  The interest for the Code of Ethics has showed once again the need for a transparent Third Sector that follows good standards of conduct
